Perspective to me is about perception of the information sent to me from others entwined in the moment of time this information is received. What does that mean? Dependent on my mood at any given time I may smile at something said to me or I might take offense and lash out. One extreme to another you say? How should we handle a response that surprises us? Tone, body language, affect, inflection, hearing, and past experiences all go into perception. What does the above picture say to you? What would your perception of this picture be if there were not a caption?
The one thing with perspective that many of us need to do is introspectively review what happened and go back and put ourselves in the shoes of both sides of perception. There are two sides to every story and live events manage to make or break our responses. So let us look at a person calling you on the phone and just before you answer they pinch their finger in the door. If we go on tone of voice alone of what that person is saying we might think they are mad when in reality they are in pain. Novel idea to see yourself in a different light.
So next time someone calls you “Sir” or “Ma’am” realize it may have been a term of respect since you forgot to give your name. They may be going on your voice and you may have a cold and sound like a frog. How can the person on the other end of the phone know if you are either male of female? How would you react if you were on the other end of the line. How was the connection, was it clear on both ends? Know that perception and perspective require us drop our defenses and give one another the benefit of the doubt. Lighten up and enjoy life while we learn to laugh at your mistakes. In reality this photo was a father/daughter singing to I tunes.
